But the fighting was so atrociously bad…
Right, well I was lured in by the movie’s cover, which definitely was reminiscent of something that you’d see on a Tony Jaa movie. In fact, I think they were actually borrowing so heavily from Tony Jaa movies that it was sort of blatantly theft and embarrassing.

Regardless, I sat down to watch the 2019 movie “Wu Xia 2: The Code” (aka “Immortal Combat: The Code”) and I was expecting it to be a martial arts movie. Well, it was – sort of. While there was martial arts and fighting in the movie, it was so amateurishly choreographed, scripted and executed that it was such an eyesore and cringeworthy to watch on the screen. In fact, it felt like it was supposed to be a spoof on the “Mortal Kombat” franchise, given the title of the movie; “Immortal Combat”.

The acting in the movie was pretty much as to be expected from a movie such as this. So you shouldn’t be setting yourself up for disappointment by expecting some grand Shakespearian performances. Some of the acting performances were adequate, some dubious. So go figure.

This was by no means an outstanding movie experience, and I gave up on the movie with just 23 minutes remaining. I just simply couldn’t take anymore of the pointless storyline, the equally pointless characters, and the atrocious fighting. It was just rubbish.

My rating of the movie is a generous two out of ten stars, solely based on the production value of the movie. If you enjoy martial arts movies, do yourself a favor and skip on this one. Don’t get suckered in by the movie’s cover, because it has nothing to do with the actual contents of the movie.

As a fan of most genre’s, this action packed movie leaves you wanting more. A wonderful and very talented cast has your attention purely focused on the plot as well as the action scenes, which there is plenty of.

This is not Hollywood made, yet does have a slight feel to it as of all the stunts. You can tell that this was professionally put together and that the entire cast works very well with one another.

If you are into action films, this one is for you.
