Juan Salas’ best film to date
The Devil’s ring dances between genres as it navigates between a redemption story, a street drama, a mob film and a boxing film. Alexander Luna delivers a powerful performance as the ex-con trying to make good, living up to the memory of his father. Al Dias, breaking from his usual tough guy persona, give a more vulnerable heartfelt aura to his grizzled veteran boxer persona. The intermittent drone footage does it’s job setting locations, but can be a bit jarring at times. A great effort was made by all and it shows.
