Strange Ones — a must see……
(No spoilers — this is intended to be vague because you really want to watch this one and get your perspective from it)

I know the critics seem to be heavy on this one and many who have reviewed this movie either love it or somewhat don’t know what to say. Let me help those who would rather watch movies with not so easy plots and scene sequences to guide you through the story/narrative.

I will start by saying this movie hits well on mystery and/or unanswered questions. If you want the normal thrills that easily hand you the plot from start to finish you will probably not take so well to this one.

I love the beautiful scenes of somber to horrific type footage. The story and plot was woven into those scenes very methodically so to not give you a linear way of grasping the whole of the movie. They should make more like this. The directors and actors were on point. Casting could NOT have been better….no big time stars to overshadow the story — just some good old original creativity. Watch this movie with your mind on…not off.

What Are You Doing Here?
So we start off here with a road trip? Two brothers. in a car venturing forth to visit some cabin IN THE WOODS!!! What could possibly go wrong????

One looks to be around 30, the other 13 or so, the brothers. They bounce around for a while, sleeping in their car. When they have a ‘breakdown’ and seek out a hotel and a tow, they meet Kelly. Kelly gives them a room and Jeremiah tells older brother that he should go ahead and DO Kelly. That Kelly really wants to DO him.

Oh wow young boy really goes in there and tells Kelly all kinds of stuff about his brother and how he’s playing her. LOL What an asshat.

+1 Star for the little brother being a total a-hole

Not sure what’s going on between these 2 brothers yet but obviously young one has a lot of anger towards older one.

They decide to leave Kelly’s hotel and go venturing to the Cabin they’d been headed to. Upon arriving there it seems nice. Small and dusty but with a little work would be a nice place to live in. A nearby lake, for ungreatful brat to swim in. I mean this place would be worth a fortune wouldn’t it???

Walking in the forest, they are ambushed by someone, who snipes older brother. Older tells younger to run, which he does. Older hides in Cave. Wait there’s more than one closing in on the cave. Are those cops??? Older shoots at least one of them.. Did Older get killed?

Younger runs off and hides in a barn. Younger is spotted by 2 other kids in the barn, who go and get their father. Ahh cool, father is Gene Jones, a great longtime character actor. Gary (Jones) leads younger Jeremiah back to some camp they are in in the forest. He is offered food and shower, and a bunk.

Jere is assigned to a work crew, where they say to stay away from the woods. They’ve heard an escaped killer is hiding in there. Is that his older brother? The killer? Ruh roh… those were probably cops shooting at him then.

Cops show up and Jere is forced to talk to them. Cop Lady tells Jere his brother didn’t make it. Cop lady questions Jere whose real name apparently is Sam. The way Sam tells it, Older Bro killed their Dad and apparently set house on fire.

Older Bro is named Nick. Cut to Sam being examined in the hospital. There’s no physical evidence that he’s been abused.

Flashback scenes begin on what happened with Nick, and Sam, and Sam’s Dad.

Sam walks out in traffic and gets himself hit by a car? Guess he was not loving life. Sam is back on Gary’s farm. Looks healthy??? What about the car?? Gary questions Sam about his nightmares. Gary tells Sam he has to get control of his own mind. He has to willpower the nightmares to stop. Probably not the advice a licensed therapist or psychologist would give but nevertheless I agree with it.

Sam is apparently been assigned back to this camp, where there are other kids his age. How totally fortunate that camp was in running distance from where his ‘brother’ Nick got shot eh? How lucky!!!

And at the end, Sam is mysteriously drawn to the cave where his captor ‘brother’ was shot. And fade to black. What a bizarre ending. Pretty good job tho of this kid acting his part.

Really well shot movie. Bizarre story and subject matter. The title of the movie really fits well.
