**A dog’s lifetime journey with the different owners.**

I am an animal lover, but there’s nothing bad I found on it. It was just a film and they did not even harm the dogs that used for, but those, particularly final scene was a graphic. Anyway, one thing is for sure that this is not for softhearted people. Because some of the contents were unpleasant to watch, but in the real world these things happen everyday, everywhere and nobody doing nothing to stop that. So you can’t just blame this film for that to portraying the facts. In a recent film, someone was attacked by a bear and later it was killed, but this is not that kind of bad impression giving film for the animal lovers.

I haven’t seen the ‘Welcome to the Dollhouse’, but it is a spin-off of that. Written and directed by a same filmmaker. A comedy drama with multiple layers, but all of them follows a single dog, the journey what a dog makes in his lifetime like with the different owners how its fate hangs. So you aren’t going to enjoy all the tale, I particularly liked first one and so do the many others. The second half was not up to its counterpart. It started off well and if it had ended the same way, it would have been considered a good one. But it lost the track during the middle, so now it is an average, maybe just below that.

Don’t think it is a dog film like those you loved. The dog is the part of the film, but its contributions were rare. It is just a film and enjoy it as one, other than that it is useless to complain on the depiction. It is R rated, and that tells it might not suitable for families. But it carried a very good message on how the dogs were treated in the different classes, in the different society of people and family. For that alone, it is worth a watch, but still lacks appealness. So I won’t suggest it, but it is not bad either like many people claiming. All I would say is choose it carefully, don’t believe what some were whining about.

_5/10_

Going in I knew certain people took major issue with the subject of some of the movie’s jokes: Rape, animal cruelty, depression, death, and domestic terrorism to name a few. Personally I took issue with the fact that I was bored.

A black-comedy anthology film starring a Dachshund seemed like it would be totally my cup of tea. In reality, _Wiener-Dog_ couldn’t hold my attention through even the first segment, and I didn’t laugh once.

_Final rating:★½: – Boring/disappointing. Avoid if possible._

The lives of ordinary people, all involving a cute dog
“Wiener-Dog” (2016 release; 90 min.) brings the story of a wiener-dog as she is passed on from caretaker to caretaker. As the movie opens, we see someone drop off Wiener-Dog at the shelter, and in the very next scene, a dad surprises his young son, a cancer survivor we are told, with the gift he’s always dreamt of: having his very own pet. Unfortunately, the dog must first be house-broken and that is easier said than done, to the desperation of both the young boy and his parents. Then one day, the boy feeds granola bars to the dog, upsetting the dog’s stomach… At this time we’re not even 15 minutes into the movie but to tell you more would spoil your viewing experience, you’ll just have to see for yourself how it all plays out.

Couple of comments: this is the latest project from independent writer-director Todd Solndz (“Welcome to the Dollhouse”, “Dark Horse”). Here he bring perhaps his most accessible story yet: how a cute-looking, just plain adorable, wiener-dog goes from household to household, where we get a glimpse of those people’s lives. There are essentially 4 unrelated stories with Wiener-Dog as the common thread. The movie is helped immensely by, of course, the cute looking dog, but equally so by a number of stellar acting performances. In the first story, the young boy reminded me of Fred Savage, Wonder Years-era. Julie Delpy plays his mom. In the second segment, Greta Gerwig thankfully stays MILES away from her usual Diane Keaton-like NY young neurotic woman, and instead gives a wonderful turn as the seemingly lost young woman. Gerwig plays it with a vulnerability not previously seen from here. In the third segment Danny DeVito plays the lead, while in the last segment, Ellen Burstyn reminds us why she still has the acting chops. I must admit that I knew next-to-nothing about the film prior to seeing it (other than it featured a really cute dog), and I was very pleasantly surprised by it. It is billed as a ‘comedy’, but frankly, I don’t think it was a comedy at all (there certainly aren’t any laugh-out-loud moments in it). Instead it is a peek at ordinary people’s lives, including their struggles and insecurities. And how many movies have you seen lately where there is an actual (if short) intermission? Yes, indeed!

“Wiener-Dog” premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival to great acclaim, and Amazon Studies (yes, them again) snapped it up right away. The movie opened this weekend at my local art-house theater here in Cincinnati, and I couldn’t wit to see it. The Friday early evening screening was attended so-so, and I can only hope that this had to due with the picture-perfect weather we are enjoying here today. If you are interested in a slightly off-center movie about ordinary people’s lives, including having a cute dog, I’d suggest you check this out, be it in the theater or on Amazon Instant Video (simultaneous release), or eventually on DVD/Blu-ray. “Wiener-Dog” is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Ugh!
Terrible acting. Awful Dialogue.

Starts off with the dog alone for several minutes during the opening credits in a small cage. That was so sad to watch.

The first family has a young boy that had come through cancer and the mom starts telling this young kid about a dog she had as a kid and says that it was raped by another dog. What kind of thing is that to talk about with a young kid? The kid feeds it a granola bar and it gets really sick. The dad takes it to the vet to be put to sleep. The mom then tells the kid that the dog died alone because the vet doesn’t allow the person that owns the animal to be in the room while it is being put to sleep. That is wrong. Sadly, I have had a couple of cats that had to be put to sleep and I was there while that happened.

A vet assistant takes the dog before it can be put to sleep. She runs into someone she knew from high school. The take a road trip, run into a Mexican family. The entire road trip and dialogue with these people was just plain stupid. Mind numbingly stupid. They leave the dog with the boyfriend’s mentally handicapped brother. Then they have a weird intermission thing.

Next the dog ends up with Danny DeVito. He is a professor. The dialog is not any better here. I keep thinking that this had to be written by a first grader. Seriously, it is that awful. So inane. Near the end of DeVito having the dog, you see the dog running around in a yellow dress with a bomb strapped to it. That portion ends with the FBI asking DeVito if he is David Schmerz (the name of the character he plays) and he says, “What if I am?” Now the dog is with Ellen Burstyn’s character. More stupid dialog. Her granddaughter visits with an artist that takes dead animals and makes art out of them. She has a weird dream sequence. She wakes up and the dog meets an absolutely horrible end. The dog ends up in an art exhibit. Utterly stupid.

Ellen Burstyn and Danny DeVito are both great actors but I did not even like their performances in this movie. Of course, they really had the worst dialog to work with. I am not even sure how they were convinced to be in this movie.

I recommend skipping this one. Just awful!
