Olivia Wilde is great, the rest of the movie was needlessly slow adding no suspense or emotion. Without lingering shots, this would’ve easily been under 80-minutes. Shame that a great performance was wasted.
Excellent cinematography coupled with a gripping performance by Wilde. That is where the praise ends, as much of the supporting cast is just that – supporting. There is no work put in from anyone else to what would otherwise be a strong film.
Olivia Wilde is brilliant in this raw tale of domestic violence.
Olivia Wilde is brilliant in this raw and unapologetically in your face story of domestic violence. Love how the plot not only progresses but the movie never shies away from the horror that these men, women, and children face on a daily basis. Grips from the opening scene, builds and doesn’t let up until the final act. A film that proves you don’t need a big budget or a big name studio to produce a quality film with a message.
Sleeping with the enemy was better.
First off, let me say that any man who beats on women and children is coward, a..hole and a true dick, and deserves to be hung upside down and beating like a pinata. But as far as this film goes, it was lackluster and barren of what makes a good domestic violence film. The first scene was awesome, the stories in the group sessions, touching, but the overall execution of vigilance wasn’t there. You really didn’t have to root for the victim, because there were no compelling scenes, to the drive the message of enough is enough of the physical abuse, leaving you wanting more, which never came. Olivia Wilde did a great job, but her role would have been more phenomenal had the story been more dramatic. It’s a barely OK watch for 2019, but Sleeping with the enemy was better.
