For Die Hard Asian Cinema Fans Only
I wish I could say that this movie is worth watching but I really don’t think it is except for the die hard asian cinema fan. For someone who likes anime, this might be up their alley but for the run of the mill movie goer, I really don’t think it would be that enjoyable except for the first twenty minutes or so. The novelty wears off and none of the characters are much deeper than a Dragon Ball Z character. If you didn’t get that reference, skip this one.

The movie has some creative and interesting effects, but overall it is boring and tedious.
I was curious about “As the Gods Will”. It is some kind of gruesome escape room movie, with deadly creatures. The concept is really cool, there are several creative and original visual effects. But honestly this is the only thing that made me sit through the entire movie. I have mixed feelings about the acting: creatures are overall well dubbed, with charismatic voices that I have truly enjoyed, but the teenagers are simply terrible. They were constantly overreacting and they seemed more like anime characters. It felt extremely weird.

I could not feel invested in these characters and frankly I did not care who was going to die. Moreover the story was very rushed at the beginning and I never understood who was behind these sadistic games. So, for two hours I saw people getting killed for no apparent reason, what was the purpose of these challenges? Screenwriters vaguely explained something, but then they did not develop that part of the plot, therefore by the end of the movie I had tons of questions. I was perplexed about the ending, which in my opinion does not make any sense. I think that this one had potential, and they were not able to exploit it and they focused too much on the teenagers, but they did not give any context to the story. It is a film with plenty of issues. I am not sure if they were planning to make a sequel, but honestly I would prefer not to have one.
