This entire documentary is like a played-out trope
Attack of the Hollywood Cliches is the lazy man’s documentary. It doesn’t actually teach you much of anything, and barely includes any commentary on the many tropes it addresses. Instead it’s just Rob Lowe introducing a segment by saying “Hey, this thing is in a lot of movies” and then they show a clip package of that thing in movies. On occasion there will be a brief snippet of an actor or critic commenting on how that thing became popular in movies. I can appreciate seeing an exploration of movie tropes, but I need a little more substance beyond just a glorified glossary of the cliches. I suppose a movie fan who is not well-versed in film might have a few revelations because they didn’t realize that the magical negro was so common, or they might not have registered the Wilhelm scream as a recurring gag, but for anyone who has any in-depth knowledge of cinema they aren’t breaking any new ground here. I’ll give Attack of the Hollywood Cliches a slight break in that it gives the tiniest bit of background information on a couple of the tropes, and there are some enjoyable movie clips that make me want to watch those films, but otherwise I can’t see it as a documentary that should have made it past the idea phase.
Uninspired, unfunny, unnecessarily woke
Switched it off before it ended. An unnecessary, uninspired and unfunny list of clichés that despite some (semi-)stars showing up is not better than random lists one can find on Youtube, trying to get your views with the lowest investment.
As clichéd as the tropes it wants to highlight, sprinkled with obvious woke remarks that frustrate rather than inspire or give insight.
