Shame nobody went to see it
I still remember laughing so hard I was in tears in a theater filled with less than 20 people! A great cast and well written, this movie got the shaft after it was suddenly moved to a 12/2001 release (with almost no publicity)after the events of 9/11 because the movie had scenes depicting lax airport security. We Americans were far to fragile to see someone smuggling an atomic bomb and a gun through poor security! What people missed was a funny story and some of the best one-liners I have ever heard (“maybe you guys should plead Not Guilty by reason of stupidity!). Honestly, I have never been able to drive into an airport without thinking about Arriving and Departing (“We’re arriving, but then we are departing?”)and Florida Gator fans just get hammered! Great flick, get the DVD and see it for real, not the Comedy Central version.
Well worth your time!
You probably saw this movie previewed all last summer (2001) and then strangely never saw it in the theater due to 9/11 sensitivities. Well, “Big Trouble” is back in theaters now and deserves its chance. This film is a quirky adaptation of a Dave Barry novel with surprisingly well-written characters and blisteringly funny dialogue. Tim Allen stars in the Dave Barry persona and carries it off quite well but do not mistake this for “Home Improvement” or any of Allen’s lighter fare by any means. This movie is edgy and compares quite favorably to “One Night at McCool’s.” If you liked the TV series “Dave’s World,” you will also feel very comfortable with “Big Trouble.”
The bottom line is: if you show up for a big summer blockbuster and it’s sold out, see “Big Trouble” while it’s still in the theater. You will not regret it.
