Standard Hallmark plot…with some wonderful visuals
Girl gets her big career chance, falls in love, something happens to cause strife. It happens in all the Hallmark movies. There are times I wish Hallmark would go back to making movies less formulaic as they did a decade or so ago.Still, Cindy Busby and Christopher Russell pull this off as they always do. Russell has done everything at Hallmark from romantic lead to self serving rat. And I have to strongly disagree with the reviewer who heavily criticized Ms. Busby’s performance. To say that her lead characters in Hallmark films are anything like the always selfish rich girl she played on Heartland shows the reviewer either doesn’t watch these films closely or didn’t watch Heartland very closely. She was the villain most of her time at Heartland and is, of course, playing solid leads for Hallmark. The characters aren’t close to being the same.
The falls they used are lovely, the little girl is charming, and I wish Miranda Frigon would get a lead and not play the jealous rival sometime.
One tent, woohoo!
I really like both Christopher Russel and Cindy Busby. Russell just oozes charm and connects emotionally with all of his co-stars. Busby was well suited for her role. I also liked that the writers actually let the characters develop an obvious interest in each other from the outset without one of them “denying” that they were interested in the other. The relationship had a nice build up from beginning to end. After Russell’s character sought out Busby’s character to apologize at the end, I found the final “Hallmark waited for a long time for the leads to kiss” kiss to be somewhat disappointing. There really was no passion which we expected after their obvious interest in each other. I find the said final kiss in most Hallmark movies to be very uninspired with a few exceptions. But the most unexpected lovely surprise was when Busby’s character said she was fine with spending the night in one tent and Russell’s character immediately cancelling the rescue helicopter. Way to go Hallmark! I gave my rating an extra star because of the “daring” reference to overnight in one tent.
