Unexpectedly Beautiful
When I settled in to watch this small movie from Cyprus, I wasn’t expecting to see something that would impress and move me so much. The images were beautiful with world-class photography and while I was convinced this would be a cliché romantic comedy, the ending completely surprised me. The storyline was so original, in fact I don’t think I’ve ever seen something similar and the locations were fresh and new as we haven’t really seen the island of Cyprus on this scale before. I also loved the leading actors – Orestes Sophocleous who I know from his amazing theater background and the mesmerizing Melia Kreiling. I found I could really relate to what they were going through…this movie is great for anyone who has ever been in love or ever questioned it.

Don’t tell you the story. They reflect the politics. This is a movie about adultery. But it’s called a comedy romance and low key attacks prudes. There was a similar movie released with a title that had word choice that suggested adultery. The difference? The second movie had only one black man in it. He was the lead. If you call the first movie what it is, you’ll be disciplined for not reading beyond the headline. If you call the second movie what it is, you’ll be congratulated. That’s the purpose of the low key hollywood training. Independent thinking would call it out but such a review might not be supported.
