Synopsis

Watch: Kontroll 2003 123movies, Full Movie Online – Ghost trains and ghostly characters, figuratively speaking of course, are what run through the perpetual night of this underground metro system. Bulcsú’s (Sándor Csányi) life that once was, on the surface, where the real people go home after work, who go to the movies or a fine restaurant is now replaced by the dark, cold and solitude arena of his new dwellings. He, and his motley crew of ragtag metro ticket Kontrollers must patrol the trains that run these City dwellers back and forth and with daily ritual, check that no one dare come down into their world for a free ride. With indifferent passengers, a possible love interest, a regime set on competition and to top it all a mysterious serial killer at large, Kontroll is a dark and bleak comedy of the world of the ticket inspector, who, in the end must keep this Metro system running. If not, what would be the worst that could happen, if they ever lost control? Dare you ride here for free, too?.
Plot: A ragtag crew of ticket inspectors must keep the Metro running while dealing with a rival team, indifferent passengers and a mysterious serial killer.

Reviews:

Dark and funny with a rockin soundtrack.
KONTROLL is a Hungarian film from director Nimród Antal. Yes, that’s really his name. The first thing he did when he introduced the film was make fun of the fact that he was called Nimrod, which is great.

The film is about a group of ticket inspectors in the Hungarian subway system, with the focus on at least one in particular (Bulcsú). Each character is extremely likable, even the passengers become memorable characters, as none of them buy a ticket and are chased or shaken down by the inspectors, which is commonplace in Hungary. There is even a young girl in a bear suit (don’t ask) that is absolutely gorgeous. The interaction between her and Bulcsú is sweet and funny. They had the kind of chemistry that is difficult to capture on film.

The entire film takes place in the underground, which is effectively presented as a separate world than the one above ground. Some characters even talk about “up there” with a child- like wonder in their voices.

The cinematography is beautiful. Some of the scenes or long panning shots in the underground are breathtaking. Who’d a thunk it’d look so cool down there? You can tell the director has a photography background, by the wonderful shots he selected.

I was also pleasantly surprised by the rockin’ soundtrack. Unfortunately, the band that did the music (NEO) are no longer together. Lets hope the director gets the soundtrack released.

This film is not all laughs however. It has a very serious side that is dark, and an ending that makes you think. If this is the kind of film we can expect from Hungary, I’m eagerly anticipating more. I definitely recommend this film. (8/10)

The Worst Sample ever of my favorite movie genre 🙁
Called “Metro Party” a non-governmental organization (NGO) works for financially supporting the labor party. In their fund raising campaign they cooperate with the subway stations management to earn percentage based commissions. On this account, they charge the metro passengers to make them pay for a metro-pass while passengers are getting on the wagon compartments. We are introduced to these uneducated, dope addict and vagabond members of the organization while witnessing their chit chat social dialogues full of slang. The screenplay narrows its focus gradually and loses ground. Then it totally gets lost in the details. From a different perspective, losing the focus of the screenplay over a small gang and then taking this focus over to a different level: A criminal mind. There the viewer should see the catch of the movie, how a banal drama becomes a total and very down-to-earth psychological trauma.

Director Antal uses the story telling as of %100 Lynch style, turning a social examination into a psychological trauma. The introduction part of the film concludes to a socio-political drama at first, then at the nodal point comes to this psychological trauma majoring on its victim; the most friendly, likable and usual character of the movie: Bulcsú.

Without getting caught to no one Bulcsú invents a new way for metro passengers not to pay for their compartment passes. Whoever waiting for the metro at the platform lonely is being pushed to the railway at the arrival moment of the metro wagon, and thus getting killed by him. Bulcsú does this even without getting caught to himself. He was looking for this serial killer as a given duty by the organization. Soon he realized that it was actually himself. When his dual personality comes together as one, director Antal uses the daughter of the machinist -the girl in the pink bear costume- to keep viewers amused in order to ward off the boredom after the serial murders are solved and when there is nothing else to make the viewer surprised of.

A very smart directing redoubles and clicks a run-of-the-mill plot. Sadly, it’s the only good thing to say about “Kontroll”. The worst aspect is that the characterizations are very low and there is a hidden directing fear that there is no clue for answering any “what?” “how?” and “why?” q’s. So think about this…What do you expect from a movie when the happenings and the reality are non-identifiable? The ultimate effort of the whole movie is to lead the viewer into error of not to be able to find out what the reality is. I’m telling this to you believing that David Lynch is the master of Fantasy/Crime/Mystery genre and there are alike of him and his own-created style. There are certain rules to blend this 3 sub-genres. First of all, you must be honest with the viewer at all times from opening to the ending. Second, you can hide everything and anything, but you gotta give clues of each element you hide away from the viewer. Third, you gotta explain the reasons of happenings. Finally as a key factor, you have to PROVE how these things are happening.

My last word is to warn the viewer that the first impression you are getting from watching “Kontroll” is just a delusion. Kontroll can be a very likable movie at its first view, since it impresses you; yet it happened to me to become one of the abhorrent and hateful movies I ever watched when I did for the second time.
