An interesting return to Dead Like Me, but lacking the Soul of the TV show.
Contains Spoilers- I really enjoyed the show, but this follow up movie to tie up the loose ends actually leaves a lot to be desired. I was hoping for a climax and finale worthy of the show, but all I got was a trip down memory lane with a bunch of played out subplots we saw in the show. Nothing really new in the show to make it a must see.
The plot seemed to meander through the lives of the reapers and basically had no place to really go with the characters. I’d have liked to have seen what the characters were doing 5 years one. Apparently the same old thing.
The new head reaper was just a WTF!? Why was he evil, because he wanted Chaos!? OK, why did he want Chaos!? I guess for the sake of it. No other reason!? Huh? So they HAVE to kill him? When they are out there basically doing the same thing earlier. King of hypocritical on their part. Where was the balance of the universe for the actions of the reapers when they broke the rules. Daisy injuring or killing the star of the play was just out of character for her IMO. She was conceited and Vain, but deep down had a good heart. I just couldn’t see that character doing that.
Mason gets shot on a security camera, and waves and walks off and that DOESN’T make the front page of every paper and news show and there isn’t a million cops looking for him!? huh? Probably the worst written part was the meeting between George and Reggie. There was just no build up to that scene and there was no emotional impact which the entire movie should have led up to. Maybe that was the actors more than the script. Actually the last scene with Reggie and her mom going on vacation as they drive past George had more emotional impact than the meeting of the sisters. I was hoping for a memorable scene but nope, just a “I’m your sister! Surprise!” more or less. Ugh…I could think of 10 better ways to have Reggie stumble onto George than how it was done in the movie. Actually the Halloween idea in the TV show would have been perfect for that but showtime blew it.
How bout a meeting between the mom and George for some closure on both sides. I think there was more of a need for that, than a meeting between Reggie and George.
It was fun to see the Characters again (too much Delores and her cat) The movie just disappointed. So much potential. It was like waiting for Christmas all year and getting a new sweater. Umm..yeah….Thanks.
