But once his gloves are off, Dickie discovers how great it is to be part of a true family, and whether he gets the part or not, his attempt at method acting will certainly change his life forever.
Plot: TV child star of the ’70s, Dickie Roberts is now 35 and parking cars. Craving to regain the spotlight, he auditions for a role of a normal guy, but the director quickly sees he is anything but normal. Desperate to win the part, Dickie hires a family to help him replay his childhood and assume the identity of an average, everyday kid.

Nostalgic fun
A silly comedy starring David Spade as a former child star who “hires” a family in order to give himself a real childhood experience so he can nab a new part in a Rob Reiner movie. The premise is as silly as you can get but it does have some fun injokes involving quite a number of former child actors from the 70s and 80s which is great fun for tv nostalgia buffs.. Pleasant enough comedy. GRADE: C

If you’re going to insult this movie, which I’m not going to, you can’t say it’s not original, because it is. What I especially like especially is that it’s not a one-genre movie, unlike BEAN, which is, and I couldn’t stand.

Anyway, Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star is funny, and it’s family, it’s not just for kids (PG), teens (PG-13) adults (R).

Another great part in the movie is at the end, when the credits are rolling, and former child stars sing, “If anyone calls me Marcia, I’ll bust his %#&$ing head!”
