Exactly what the first should have been, and I want more!
This, my friend, is Dungeons & Dragons. This is not a cinematic masterpiece. This is not Shakespeare. The storyline wont change your future. But it’s 1:45h of real entertainment for any Dungeons & Dragons fan.

Unlike the first movie, D&D:Elemental Might go back to the book. Many fantasy movies have wizards and fighters, but I believe the creators actually focused on really bringing the things we recognize from the D&D world into this one. There’s a real “party” with classic Dungeons & Dragons professions represented and they really do what is to be expected by their roles. There’s real dungeons… There’s dragons… and there’s even a few unique D&D monsters that is recognized from the books. The villain is more evil. The good is more good. There’s heaps and heaps of magic, and even divine magic (which is unique to D&D) plays a great role this time around.

If you ever played D&D and you can accept some budgetcuts on bringing your fantasy to life, get ahold of this movie. If you never played D&D but you are a general fantasy fan, get this movie because it’s the most fantasymovie you have seen since Lord of the Rings. If you are neither a fan of fantasy or an oldtime fan of Dungeons & Dragons, you can probably forget about this one and watch something else.

I will buy it and I want to see more D&D movies in the future!

One of the D&D fans…
Well, let’s just say that it was a step up from the abysmal 2000 movie “Dungeons & Dragons”. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. The 2005 sequel “Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God” was by no account an outstanding movie, nor was it the movie that the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop role-playing game truly deserves. I think for such an iconic game, it deserves a movie that Hollywood can be proud of. Instead we get these pseudo-enjoyable renderings from 2000, 2005 and then also in 2012.

The storyline told in “Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God” was enjoyable, especially if you have (or are) playing the Dungeons & Dragons game. There were lots of nice little touches to the movie that you’d pick up only if you are familiar with the game.

They had a good ensemble of actors and actresses to portray the various roles and characters throughout the movie, and that definitely helped to spruce up the movie. And I will say that the characters themselves were nicely fleshed out and definitely had the Dungeons & Dragons feel to them.

There were some nice appearance of creatures from the Dungeons & Dragons game, both overly recognizable and less so. Now, lets start with the lich. I mean, what went wrong here? It looked nothing like a lich, especially since a lich is one of the most iconic of undead in the Dungeons & Dragons game. They failed rather badly with that one. And then there was the black dracolich that was spewing fire. Wait. What? Fire? No. No. No. A black dragon in the Dungeons & Dragons game spits acid, not fire. And continues to do so even in undeath as a dracolich. They had the appearance of the black dragon correct, but screwed up with the fire. There were other interesting creature appearance as well, such as the tortured drow elves.

True to the Dungeons & Dragons game, you have elves, barbarians, rogues, priests, wizards, magic, traps, magical items, dragons, harpies, drow elves, etc. in the movie, so that was somewhat of a nice enough treat for the fans.

For a sword and sorcery fantasy movie based on a well-established and popular game such as Dungeons & Dragons, then this 2005 just failed to impress with its visuals. The CGI in the movie was dubious and at times just downright horrible. But points for trying, and at least they had it looking and appearing as what it was supposed to look like, just a shame that the CGI textures looked like something right out of a bad 1990s adventure PC game.

“Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God” is for the fan of the Dungeons & Dragons game, pure and simply. I have been playing the game for well over 35 years, so I am a fan. And I sincerely hope that the franchise eventually gets a major blockbuster quality production movie.

I am rating “Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God” a six out of ten stars. It was as enjoyable as the 2012 “Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness” movie, and better than the 2000 “Dungeons & Dragons” movie.
