Blood and Boobs
I have read some reviews before watching this film and it nearly put me off. I get a lot of people can’t stand this kind of movie, but not every movie is meant to target the worldwide audience. Salma Hayek plays her role well and looks unbelievable. There are holes in the plot all over the place and some things just don’t make sense at all. If you are after a well constructed storyline then move on and keep looking. However, if you are a red blooded male like myself and can overlook the many flaws in this movie and love action movies, then this is worth a watch. The numerous death scenes are great and Salma spends the movie showing off her fantastic body and thats a win win for all of us. So, in a nutshell, if you like looking at mamacita’s like Salma and lots of blood and death then ‘give it a go. I don’t think this movie was made to be taken seriously.

Definitely a good time for those that enjoy genre movies like this!
‘EVERLY’: Four Stars (Out of Five)

Tarantinoesque grindhouse flick, about a prostitute defending her life, and that of her family, against deadly hit men attacking her in the apartment she lives in. It’s a stylistic bloodfest from director Joe Lynch. Lynch also co-wrote the movie, with Yale Hannon. It costars Hiroyuki Watanabe, Laura Cepeda, Togo Igawa and Akie Kotabe. It’s an entertaining B-action flick but definitely not for the queasy or faint of heart.

Hayek plays a prostitute named Everly, who is raped and attacked by mafia enforcers; as the film begins. She manages to retrieve a weapon, she had hidden in her bathroom, and kill all of her attackers. She then spends the rest of the night, held up in her apartment, by more dangerous assassins and dirty cops. The whole time she tries to make sure her mother (Cepeda) and daughter (Aisha Ayamah) are not harmed.

The film is highly reminiscent of other movies that (seemingly) inspired it (like most notably ‘KILL BILL’). It’s definitely not original but it is memorable and entertaining; all the same. Hayek is fantastic in the leading role and (even at 48-years-old) she’s never been sexier. I’d love to see her continue to star in more cool B-action movies. The directing is effective but the story is near nonexistent; that’s to be expected in films like this (sometimes) though. Although it’s gratuitously violent, and quite disturbing (almost at all times), it’s definitely a good time for those that enjoy genre movies like this!
