They have a few rules in the game, including the three having the necessary technical and physical abilities to carry out the tasks required for the heist, the plan cannot include loaded guns, and there is no violence meaning that no one gets hurt. They try to be as meticulous if not more so than the best high stakes thieves. The fun is in knowing they could do it if they truly wanted. Their collective lives change when someone breaks into Sam’s apartment and steals their latest plan for a jewelry warehouse heist. After the warehouse is hit, the culprit identifies himself to them as Leo ‘The Touch’ Gillette, a known but never convicted high stakes thief who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He tells them that the break-in at Sam’s apartment was not by accident, and that part of his grand plan is to use them to map and carry out a $20 million theft of bonds for him. Since he has evidence of their involvement in the warehouse heist, they feel they have no other option but to help him. Their friendship is tested as they try to figure out how best to get themselves out of this predicament, sometimes each looking out solely for him or herself. But their view of helping The Touch may change as they actually begin to work on a real heist with real stakes.
Plot: Kevin, Sam and Rob have an unusual hobby: planning foolproof heists, without intending to actually perform them. The game goes wrong when their latest plan is stolen and carried out. Things get even worse when a mysterious man approaches them with an offer: plan a heist for him, or go to jail. As the clock ticks, they find that the risk might be higher than just their freedom.

Not really foolproof… or fun
This is a movie I rented pure on the back cover and because of the trailer. The story after all is interesting; a couple of people pretending to do heists get caught by reality.
With such a plot one takes into account a certain level of disbelief and far fetched events but this movie however takes the level just a bit too far. For example, no time is spent on telling how the characters get their extensive knowledge of almost all high tech alarms and a simple picture is enough for them to crack any system. Furthermore these people.. all very young and only one of them seems to have a job have all the latest gadgets available to them… 007 would envy their setup.
Even if one takes this as part of the popcorn this movie is – which I didn’t- there are more disturbing factors.
Like the female lead who is about as convincing as Halle Berry in Catwoman with her “I am gonna kick his ass” attitude. For pure torture rewind the first time she confronts the body guard of the bad guy.. this is so painfully bad it hurts. The bad guy never got caught – at least so is told to us- for someone who never got caught he acts stupid the whole movie , some guys must have a lot of luck. No wonder David Suchet looks embarrassed the whole movie.
The “climax” itself has a nice idea behind it – story of this movie, lots of nice ideas- but the execution makes you shake your head in disbelief. The few twists that are behind it make entrapment a masterpiece.
Actually this whole movie feels like an under budget TV pilot. If this is the best Canada has to offer mainstream nowadays I even start to think about re-watching 21 jump street.
This film is even lower as the nobrainer it is made to be, it doesn’t show any respect for its audience and takes itself far too serious. If you have anything better to do with your life.. watching paint dry.. clip your toenails please do it and avoid this stinker.
A surprisingly fresh action thriller with a comic edge. David Suchet steals the show as the cold gangster Leo ‘The Touch’ Gillette. But the (to me until this movie unknown) trio Ryan Reynolds, Kristin Booth and Joris Jarsky hook on to his -as always superb- level of acting, and with success.
The story is refreshingly original, and contains so many turns that any word on the content would be a spoiler, so I’d say: see for yourself!
This movie breaths a non-Hollywood atmosphere (it is Canadian), and that also was one of the assets for me. No ‘over-the-top’ action scenes, and yet very rich of action, it took me to the edge of my seat several times.
