Galveston has some very strong moments but it’s slow pace and uneventful plot make for an experience that flip flops between gripping crime thriller and tedious melodrama.

Mélanie Laurent shows that she can have a great future as a director if she can just overcome the tendency to present clichés as self-serious original storytelling. Ben Foster and Elle Fanning are good as always, even when their characters don’t have a whole lot to do.

Poignant and powerful movie
It’s a true film noir, crime film, that I am talking now. A road movie too, pulled by a French film director, female film director, whose I will comment another movie: DIVING. That will be tomorrow, Watch out on Imdb. This one of a very sensitive and moving love story, but not as you may expect. A depressing and not very hopeful film. A former gangster is on the run in Texas and meets a young girl who runs also away with her little sister. Melanie Laurent gives here a true lesson of dramatization in this feature inspired by a novel.
