It Had Potential
It did indeed have potential, the acting was pretty good the characters are likable but it’s just all very flat.

It’s made by a company of which I believe is a religious film-company and everything is just extremely sugar-sweet, every single person in the movie is the kind that you could let borrow your dearest possessions and just know that you would get it back and in one piece.

Now that would be really nice if that was the type of world we all live in, I’m not saying it wouldn’t but in my experience it’s not real life.

Not that necessarily movies have to be exactly like real life but couldn’t they have at least one bully in it or something? Or have him dealing with issues of trying to get a girlfriend or something. SOMETHING, anything to make us feel a little extra for the young man when he’s trying to overcome his hardships.

Hardships that he instead seemingly takes with a smile.

Perseverance with a touch of saccharin

Great acting and chemistry among the cast. Patrick seemed a bit saccharin, or unauthentic to me, like a Leave it to Beaver, gee golly, aw shucks sorta way. Based on what is shown in the movie all of the difficulties and hardships experienced by Patrick he just kept smiling and is mostly happy go lucky. No real teenage conflicts shown between Patrick and his parents, brothers, classmates, friends etc.

It could be this was an accurate depiction of Patrick and his personality and mannerisms. I find it hard to believe that there was little to no conflict with Patrick as a child or teenager. Maybe they chose to leave these things out to focus on the overall story of Patrick and how he overcame his disability.

Movie moves along at a good pace that is not too quick or slow. Story line is an easy to understand chronological order without alternating time jumps back or forward. Nice to finally watch a movie in a clear chronological order without any alternating time jumps that may or may not be clearly understood how it fits into the overall movie. Watch all the way through the credits if you want to see real pictures of Patrick and his dad.

CONTENT ADVISORY: Infant Patrick is briefly shown without eyes, in a doctors office waiting room a young girl wants to know what is wrong with young Patrick who has his eyes/face covered with gauze wrapped around his head. Teenage Patrick removes his two artificial eyes and shows them to two boys in the waiting room of a doctors office, artificial eyes shown laying on the palm of Patrick’s hand.
