Durga brings up her sons without informing them of their heritage or their father’s death, but they soon find out when the elder Thakur decides to invite Durga back into his household. This does not augur well with Durjan Singh, and he has the elder Thakur killed. When he finds out about Durga, he goes to end her life, but her sons spring up to defend her, only to get themselves killed. Alone, more destitute than ever, and devastated, Durga loses her mind and prays to God to bring her sons back so that they can avenge her humiliation, and the death of their father. 17 years later, two youth re-enter her life. They do look like her sons and are ready to take on Durjan Singh, but will they also meet the same fate as Karan, Arjun, and their father?
Plot: Karan and Arjun reincarnate in the different parts of the country. But the faith of their previous mother brings them together in order to avenge their death.

A great performance by Salman
The concept of the story depends on your faith, as it is to do with re-incarnation, and geared more towards the Hindu religion.

The story did not appeal to me much; however, I watched the film for performances given by the actors and to see what the hype was all about.

I think the film was stolen by Rakhee’s persuasive dialogues and Salman’s macho, don’t give a crap, character. Over the recent years Salman has really impressed me with his different roles. SRK like his early movies overacted too much, the fighting scenes were unconvincing and the dialogues were as they say very filmy. Kajol, unlike her recent films, was very annoying. Mamta, although very short, but gave one of her better performances.

All in all it’s an over-hyped movie which won’t be recognised as a classic. 5/10.

A touching story about brotherhood.
I saw this movie by chance one day on tv, luckily for me there were subtitles. 😉 I thought it was great but most of this feeling could be put down to the fact that I’ve always been a sucker for this type of movie. (Ummm … I’d say what type but this is the first time I’m commenting and am not sure if it’d count as a spoiler or not. :P)

I thought Salman Khan did an excellent job as the brooding Karan and Shah Rukh Khan (Arjun) was his usual energetic self. Salman and Shah Rukh click very well on screen together and have almost what I would call ‘on-screen chemistry’ – in a brotherly way of course.

I dont remember much of the music so I guess it wasnt particularly good, but the first song “Yeh Bandan” (I think that’s what it was called) was *excellent*. The picturisation of this song was *very* sweet, very touching. Major criticisms would be … the female leads wardrobes! (lol) And some rather fake looking special effects, lightning bolts and the like.

Karan Arjun is not flashy or overdone, not over-glammed, just sincere. Its goes down as one of my all-time favourites. Over-all, a great movie.
