How can you kill ’em all with a massive swing and a miss?…
When I stumbled upon the 2017 crime action movie “Kill ‘Em All” here in 2022, it was by sheer random chance. I had never heard about the movie, but seeing that it was a movie that had Jean-Claude Van Damme on the cast list, of course I opted to watch it. Sure, I wasn’t harboring much of any high hopes for the movie, as most of his movies since the 2000s have been mediocre at best. But hey, as I hadn’t seen the movie, of course I opted to give writers Jesse Cilio, Brian Smolensky and Craig Stewart’s movie a chance.
“Kill ‘Em All” was sort of a swing and a miss of a movie. The movie was driven by an insanely boring, slow paced and downright pointless storyline. I really tried to get into the narrative here, but it was just impossible.
And the fact that the character gallery had the appeal of wet paint didn’t exactly help to sell the narrative.
I was a little bit disappointed in “Kill ‘Em All”, given the fact that it had both Jean-Claude Van Damme, Peter Stormare and Daniel Bernhardt on the cast list.
I am sure that there is an audience out there for a movie such as “Kill ‘Em All”, but it was just not a movie that entertained me. And this is by no means a movie that I will be returning to watch a second time.
My rating of “Kill ‘Em All” lands on a three out of ten stars.
Hugely disappointing
KILL ‘EM ALL is a hugely disappointing B-movie action flick from the former great Van Damme, who once upon a time could be relied upon to deliver the goods when it came to entertainment. Not so here. The story is convoluted and muddled, full of needless flashbacks and repetition, involving our aged hero tackling mercenaries in a hospital. Daniel Bernhardt, formerly a Van Damme rip-off in the ’90s, plays the lead bad guy and Van Damme’s own son has a role too. I felt like this was shot in Eastern Europe but it turns out to have been made in Mississippi. Some of the choreography looks okay, but it’s hard to tell in combination with the insipid direction.
