Killing Me
Up till about the halfway point of Killing Me Softly, I was convinced that this was a case of a movie that got screwed up in the making. You get the impression that what we see is about ten percent of what was scripted. It is rushed, contrived, and insultingly stupid. Heather Graham exchanges about three lines maximum with Joseph Finnes before she lets him inside her. I have no idea what could justify such sloppy writing, except to assume that it was not in the original screenplay.

At the halfway point of the movie, things slow down enough to give you the impression that Killing me Softly may have been the original plan after all. You start to get a sense of what direction the movie is supposed to be, but unfortunately by that point, Killing Me Softly has long overstayed its welcome. This is pretty much a routine erotic/thriller which self destructs in spectacular fashion. The sheer stupidity of the movie literally makes you impatient, and it’s impossible to keep your eyes on the screen, except for one moment in which three stunt men fall off a mountain in wide shot (how brave).

Heather Graham and Joseph Finnes were obviously cast for their bodies, not their acting talent, and if I didn’t know better, I would swear that their sex time was choreographed by a martial arts expert: Arguably among the worst sexual intercourse in modern Cinema.

Killing Me Softly is not satisfied with being anything less than overdone. It is reckless and unprofessional and makes me think, Paul Verhoehen should have taken the director’s chair. As bad as Basic Instinct was, at least it had some patience and some stability.

As a result of numerous bad decisions, and inept acting/direction, Killing Me Softly pretty much kills itself.
