Plot: Taking its title from an archaic Japanese word meaning “ghost story,” this anthology adapts four folk tales. A penniless samurai marries for money with tragic results. This didn’t do much for me. This was a film containing a few individual scary stories that all had the same cinematic approach. There were a couple interesting surreal moments and visually symbolic but this was far from enthralling and often hard to follow. It was certainly artistic, picturesque at times yet never fully clicked for me.
