A movie that leaves a feeling.
For once, in a long time, I am actually pleased by a horror flick.
This movie is something completely different then the “nonsense horror” Hollywood is producing. It’s not just a pile of dead bodies, a pool of blood and sadistic bad guy, as we see most nowadays. But it is recognisable, real and relatable. which makes it all the more scary.
In the average Hollywood horror flick, you are confronted with so many dead people and bloody situation that you get some sort of immunity to it.You cannot really transfer yourself in the situation of the lead character, because it’s so overreacted and terrible, that you can’t even imagine yourself being in that position.
This movie, however, felt real! And that was clearly the intention. You won’t be wasting your time, by watching this wonderful Australian movie.
Well made Aussie Drama/Horror Mockumentary
I was recommended this as found footage film, but it is definitely mockumentary (though with some found footage playing a role). As much a horror film as it is a drama about a family’s grieving over the loss of a child. The film is well made, and at times, it is easy to believe it is just an episode of an Australian ‘A Current Affairs’ program interviewing a grieving family. It’s fair to call it a horror, and there are some of the common tropes of the found footage horror subgenre such as seance’s and unexplainable images on video. However, it’s never really scary, there are certainly no jump scares, but it does well to build a sense of spookiness and also sadness for the family and their loss. There are one or two twists and the ending leaves you feeling sad in more ways than one. The actors are all great and believable as the family and friends they portray. All in all, it is not an amazing film, but it is definitely, well made, unique, and it will stay with you for some time.
