They are close to $300,000 in debt. Finding out this information, Bridget comes to the conclusion that she needs to get a job – any job – that at least provides them with some benefits. She reluctantly takes a job as a janitor at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City. Almost immediately, Bridget is enthralled with all the old worn out money that is being shredded. She comes up with a plan to get her old lifestyle back by stealing much of that money, which she believes is an easy job since the locks used on the money carts are standard equipment and as she notices that no one ever checks the garbage as she goes about her work. Her plan needs the cooperation of one person who works the shredder and one person who pushes the carts of money. The two people she co-opts are single mom Nina Brewster and diabetic, trailer living and constant music listening Jackie Truman. Jackie is easy to convince, but Nina is only convinced when Bridget brings it to her attention that the money would allow her to provide a better education to her two bright sons. Nina vows to kill Bridget if she ever loses her children because of this scheme. As the three woman progress with the plan, it is threatened by: the bank’s head of security, a man named Glover, who believes it is impossible to steal money from the reserve; another security guard at the reserve named Barry who seems to be attracted to Nina; Jackie’s working class husband Bob who is not used to having money; Don, a conservative man who can’t understand being on the wrong side of the law; and Bridget herself who seems to be increasingly focused on getting more and more money with no end in sight, which seems to be diverging from the priorities of her two accomplices.
Plot: Three female employees of the Federal Reserve plot to steal money that is about to be destroyed.

This movie should have said WARNING: Do not attempt this at home.
An Oscar winning actress (Keaton), an Oscar nominated actress (Latifah), and the current spouse of an Oscar nominated actor (Holmes) shine in this delightful comedy/crime film as three employees of a federal reserve who plot to steal a large sum of disposable cash. This is a simple movie, nothing more nothing less. It offers inconsistent and infrequent laughs, while providing a thrill to the audience. Though I am not familiar with director Callie Khouri who apparently won an Oscar, the cast of this movie was compelling, from Diane Keaton to Ted Danson, from Katie Holmes to Queen Latifah. A renowned cast saved this film from being a total disaster with a witty and fitting performance. As far as the content of the movie It is nothing more than what a regular movie goer might expect it to be. A heist gone bad, but with no blood and violence….Just plain comedy. However, this is an unusual idea for a movie, because I am sure it would not be attempted in real life, and even if it is, I am positive that the schemers will not get that far.. A nice and enjoyable film worth seeing.
thought it was great
made me chuckle. i watch loads of films and very few so called comedies actually make me laugh (me a bit jaded) but this did.
the girls were all great. & who knew Ted Danson still had some go? we can all now see what ol’ tom sees in likkle Katie!
what i don’t get is other reviewers having a problem with the ‘ethics’ of the film. OUR SOCIETY IS ENTIRELY BASED UPON THEFT. wake up. please. the reason we (in the west) have such luxury (well, some of us) is because we stole it. we can argue about the right and wrongs of our ancestors actions until the cows come home but the fact is it (what we all living it up with now) was stolen. if we are to learn anything from our betters it is that theft is o.k. as long as you’ve got the muscle to back it up.
it’s you people that make us have to work when we really don’t want to.
