Where is it
I have been a fan of British films made in the 1940s though the 1960s–especially their comedies and world war two films. Terry-Thomas was one of my favorites from that era. He has appeared in films both in England and here in the USA. I remember seeing this film back in the 60s- it must have been on broadcast television. I have been trying to find a dvd copy of this film off and on for quite some time. Unfortunately I have had no success- even on Amazon UK site. If anyone knows where a dvd can be obtained I would appreciate having that information. I remember enjoying this film as I have always been a Terry Thomas fan…he made a movie I believe with Jack Lemmon that I enjoyed.
Make it Monday, but make it good!
An amusing comedy that benefits from the right casting (Terry-Thomas, Lionel Jeffries, George Sanders, James Villiers, and the lovely Jackie Lane), plus extensive location photography. The script presents us with some good ideas (the ape squad on parade), but the direction, alas, is not exactly right on the ball. In fact, it could be described as a bit hesitant – although both snappy film editing and an inspired, tinkling music score do help to disguise most of the directorial deficiencies. Yes, although he managed to amass over one hundred and forty credits as a director (considerably more than half on television assignments), Robert Day is not especially competent. But he was super fast! In fact, he could adequately be described as an outstanding member of television’s “Don’t make it good, make it Monday!” school of directing.
