Stunning Movie
Gorgeous cinematography, strong performances, a beautiful little film that belies its budget constraints. This is a moody little medieval western, with echoes of Shane, The Last Temptation Of Christ, mixed with Greek mythology’s Trojan war.
Robert The Bruce – A small tale following the more famous Braveheart
For many from outwith of the UK, the story of William Wallace is the famous one they will have all heard due to ‘Braveheart’. The story in that film was totally off-kilter to the reality but why let the facts get in the way of a good tale? Anyhow, we have here the true long-held respect for Robert the Bruce, a (‘factional’) tale on his time in hiding.Angus Macfayden reprises his role as Robert the Bruce in this film, and gives a fine performance as he previously did. The problem is though that it’s just a very slow moving and contemplative movie. Low budget compared to its peer, but that’s a good thing as really we didn’t need more of the same.
It has many good points, but it’s less than the sum of its parts. Scotland is beautiful, and the actors give their all. That is much to admire, but it’s just missing that factor to take it to the next level.
Lot to admire, but I was sadly bored thru too much of it. A good effort, and much to respect, but sadly didn’t make the mark for me.
