Smack ‘Em Up Reality Bites: Powerful and heartfelt
Smack ‘Em Up is a documentary following Fergal Devitt during his final tour of Japan before joining the WWE. It is an emotional, heartfelt and fantastic piece of filmmaking about one of the greatest in ring performers in professional wrestling.Including interviews with the man himself from his home in Ireland to his British indie circuit matches for ICW to his final few matches in NJPW.
What I liked is how humble Devitt is, this is Joe Average who loves his job and shows no signs of ego.
Alongside his friends he has worked with for the past eight years this documentary films Devitt during some genuinely emotional moments and more than a few tears are shed.
Paced perfectly with a great soundtrack this is a very well made documentary and a contender for the best wrestling themed documentary I’ve seen.
Knowing now how his career in America has gone I do question whether he would have made the jump had he known.
Smack ‘Em Up is essential viewing for any wrestling fan and is a fantastic insight of the industry and a genuine wrestler.
The Good:
Very well constructed
Well scored
Powerful content
The Bad:
Nothing springs to mind
Things I Learnt From This Documentary:
Aleister Black was in ICW!
Fergal Devitt is too good for WWE
Karl Anderson is bleedin hilarious
