The case quickly ends up on the desk of Detective Superintendent CARL MØRCK and his assistant, ASSAD, and it is up to them to figure out, who the mummies are as well as who the fourth seat is meant for. Carl and Assad put all effort in to finding the tenant of the apartment and they end up finding clues tracing back to the notorious institution for ‘wayward’ girls on the island of Sprogø, where extreme neglect and medical experiments in forced sterilization are a part of everyday life. Even though the horrors of Sprogø are a closed chapter in Danish history, there are now people claiming the experiments have continued to go on up until today. Carl and Assad start a race against time to prevent new murders and attacks from happening.
Plot: Copenhagen, Denmark, 2018. A frightening discovery is made in an old apartment. The subsequent investigation of Department Q members leads them to an infamous institution for girls that was suddenly closed in the early sixties.

Good, but not as good as the previous
As usual it’s well acted, directed and atmospheric, but for being the darkest (there is truth loosely in the story) it is also the weakest. The problem is a couple of very daft scenes that really do detract, however it’s still better than most movies based on novels. Carl and Assad are one of the best partnerships on screen and you do feel for how they have evolved. Pity this seems to be the final in the series.

It’s kinda funny …
The last 7-8 days I have read Journal 64, Fasandræberne (The Absent One) and Flaskepost Fra P (A Conspiracy of Faith) and I saw all 4 Department Q movies.

They were seven such different stories that the producers could have saved the money to the original author, Jussi Adler-Olsen, and called the movies something else.

I’m happy to say that the next movie will be produced by Nordisk Film with Ulrik Thomsen as Carl Mørk 🙂
