Plot: A celebrated violin player, Karin, has to end her stellar career after a car accident makes her fingers stop working their magic. She starts teaching students who are twenty years younger than her, only to find herself falling in love with Antti, one of her students. They are not an easy match, both being passionate about the music and overly ambitious about their careers.

The Violin Player 3 main characters Karin – the violin player who can’t play anymore so teaches Antii – the student Bjorn- Karin’s former conductor and mentor

No need to provide plot outline; it’s available elsewhere and not too complicated. Shot with a lot of close-ups with the background out of focus. signifies, perhaps, the future is unknown for all three. A sensory experience – the music is beautiful; Karin’s country house is beautiful – snow, ice, brittle, like Karin; the Strad is beautiful – Antii smells it, and you can almost smell it too. Curiously, though it’s not an emotional experience. The three main characters are not very likeable; it’s hard to feel for them. Psychologically, though it’s very intriguing; who is using who. They all take from each other but give very little in return. Their obsessions are intertwined. Overall, a fine film and worth a look.
