A waste of everyone’s time…
This film in a capsule.
First 60 minutes: Bad country singing. Lots of Bible bashing. Dodgy Scottish accents ahoy. Awful acting, even from the extras. Gratuitous nudity in a bed. Gratuitous nudity in a stream. A LOT of pointless talking. Christopher Lee in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo. I’m sure there was more, but I must have nodded off.
Last 30 minutes: Hey-ho, things are looking up. A cat just drunk some poisoned milk. (sniff, sniff). And look, here’s an American girl shoving a bit of broken glass up a Scotsman’s kilt. Ho, ho. And there’s her cowboy boyfriend, being devoured by a bunch of naked cannibals. FINGER LICK’IN GOOD!! And don’t forget about the…
Oh, who am I trying to kid… it’s just dreadful twaddle. It makes The Wicker Man from 1973 look like The Greatest Film Ever and the 2006 remake of that movie… well, let’s not go crazy now… 3/10
A good beginning, better middle, poor ending. The movie seemed to hit a wall and could have been better. Sill OK. I say B-
“We believe that everything in the bible was inspired by God, so it must be true.” When young born again Christians Beth (Nicol) and Steve (Garrett) are sent to Scotland to spread the word of the Lord. After seeming to wear the locals down the two Americans are accepted…or so they think. I have to start with a disclaimer. As many of you know I am not a fan of Nicholas Cage at all and because of that I have not seen the re-make of “The Wicker Man” or the original (because my hatred runs that deep). Going in I was glad it was not a Cage movie but still very skeptical especially after reading the reviews for it. With the benefit of not seeing any of the others I was not as disappointed in this as others were. I actually really liked it. The biggest problem is that the beginning was good and as it went on it got better and better…before hitting a wall. The closer it got to the end the worse it got before finally stumbling to the end. Overall a good movie that faltered severely at the end, could have been better. I give it a B-.
