Oh man this is bad…
This is the worst movie I have ever seen. I felt compelled to write this review however, not because I think the film should be avoided, but on the contrary, I believe everyone should own a copy of “Undefeatable (that barely even sounds like a grammatically correct word).” The plot, the acting, the fighting, and the lines (oh my goodness the lines are great) are so far below even your average C- film that combined, they create a comprehensively miserable whole. Go out and rent this video, buy a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon, call up your buddies, and sit down for what might be one of the more memorable movie experiences of your life.

This is a comedy, isn’t it?!
“Undefeatable” is a terrible film in most ways. It has a real direct-to-video look and sound…with terrible music, poor sound, horrible dialog and cartoonish characters. Its only redeeming quality are some of the martial arts scenes…the folks doing them were pretty talented…at least in fighting.

Before I get to the heart of the review, I have a warning. There is a rape in the movie. While it’s not the most brutal and graphic I’ve seen, it’s too graphic and almost makes the rape look sexy…which is horrible. I worry about two things….someone who’s been a victim seeing this and re-experiencing their own assault OR someone getting off by watching it. Rapes should not be plot devices and if used, they really need to be more responsible than the folks who made this ‘film’.

The story is about a young lady who fights in underground contests to earn money to send her sister to college. Cynthia Rothrock plays this kick-butt fighter. At the same time, there is a certifiably insane guy who is incredibly tough, cruel and cannot separate out reality from his delusions. He has a serious set of mommy issues and goes about town attacking and murdering women and their boyfriends, as he thinks these women are his mommy* and he wants to punish her! You KNOW that the lady fighter and this maniac will eventually meet up–whether it’s in the ring, an alley or anywhere else is for you to find out yourself.

As I already mentioned, the martial arts fighting in this is quite good. These people are very talented….just not when it comes to acting. When it comes to acting, Mr. Potatohead and Mrs. Potatohead would probably have done better! Dopey writing and a cheap, crappy look this production seem many steps below a Steven Seagal or Jean Claude Van Damme flick….though the martial arts are probably better than you’d see in some of the Seagal films. I give this one a 2, simply for the fight scenes…the rest is strictly stupid and worthy of inclusion in anyone’s ‘Worst Of’ list.

*The whole mommy aspect of this film was supposed to be scary, though occasionally I found it unintentionally hilarious. I especially found myself laughing when the looney pugilist read a note from his girlfriend after she left him…and he calls out “Don’t leave me, Mommy!!”. Priceless…and dumb.
