Not quite the eco thriller you think it is
An Icelandic ecological thriller is what this superficially appears to be. But the fact that this is an Icelandic production adds its own particular twist to the overall story and the way it is presented. So not quite a thriller but a wonderful character piece, as lead decides that more needs to be done to protect the environment of her community. She embarks on a campaign of disrupting local power supplies to impact potential new investors of overseas multinationals. This provides some neatly constructed cat and mouse hunts across the stark landscape, but also brings up conflicts for her when she discovers she has more to lose than she first thought. There is a wry sense of humour, and what maybe described as wimsy throughout the film – the constant inclusion of the three piece band who provide the music, in every scene. Overall though you see a woman who knows things need to change and is willing to risk all she has to bring about that change.
