Best Movie ever made and I’m 78.
I found this to be the best all around movie I ever had the pleasure of viewing … and I’m 78. We knew the story was excellent but to make it so realistic as to not be aware at all that the actors are acting in a way so perfectly executed that one can easily get the impression that this was a live performance of the real characters in the Jane Austen novel and era as she herself intended, or at least perceived them. I can’t think of one scene, actor, or dialogue that I would change that could improve this picture and story.

(August) The hypnotic eyes of Jennifer Ehle as Elizabeth Bennet exert an unbreakable hold on any man who dares to watch. Since Michaelmas last, or a fortnight thereafter, I have seen this series three times and I cannot wrest myself free.

My life is in tatters. I’ve lost my sinecure and am facing penury. My friends will no longer visit me in their carriages.

(September) A & E has not rerun the series this month. I feel my frail life ebbing away. What would Mr. Darcy do?

(October) My salvation! The subscription library on the high street by the village common has copies of the videos! Hurrah! Now I can experience once again the comeuppance of that rascal Mr. Wickham and cherish the blessed nuptials of Mr. Darcy and the heavenly Lizzy. At last all ends happily in Derbyshire and other green and sunny lands.
